She would swim most nights at the same time. The gentle rippling sounds of the water offered a sense of calm and cleansed my being as one would gently lift a handful of water to the face. I could look down from the 8th floor of my Los Angeles apartment and the sounds were painted by the calming motion of this heavenly swim.

Gracefully moving her body through the dark green water with such little effort as to barely break the surface. One could sense the toils of the day being washed away with every stroke. Could this, with all it’s feeling of effortless calm and excitement be captured ?

Mid stroke, she is suspended in both space and time. There is nothing beneath, nothing above, just the light, daubed by her gentle currents .

This ‘Night Swimmers’ series of photographs is inspired by this meeting of senses, the light and the water, it’s deep and calming effect on the soul.
